Begin Your Child’s Catholic Education with OLV Preschool
Each child is one of God’s unique creations and their growth and development during the preschool years is very important. An excellent curriculum combined with lots of fun, developmentally appropriate activities in a caring, faith-filled environment contribute to the growth of children spiritually, intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally. Children who begin their Catholic education by attending the OLV preschool display a love for learning, transition with ease to kindergarten and form a foundation for their future education.
Three Year Old Preschool
Your child’s first days of learning are fun-filled in the OLV three year old preschool program. It emphasizes:
Social development—children develop play skills, learn to share, take turns and develop language skills. Positive work habits such as following simple directions, exercising self control and respecting others are encouraged.
Physical Development—Gross motor skill development is encouraged through play and outdoor activities. Fine motor skills are developed through lots of arts and crafts, and puzzles.
Spiritual Development—The religion curriculum introduces children to the presence of God in their lives. Children also learn simple prayers and participate in prayer services. and in Mass occasionally.
Academic Development—the curriculum for the three year old preschool program includes Sadlier “Mother Goose” prereading and Saxon Math PreK programs. This age appropriate curriculum helps children learn to sort objects, recognize differences between objects, learn letters and colors, and many more concepts that are important building blocks for future learning.
Four Year Old Preschool
As your child progresses into the four year old preschool program, the fun of learning continues with activities and curriculum designed to help children transition to kindergarten with ease and self confidence.
Academic Development—Using the “Frog Street” language arts curriculum and “Scott Foresman” mathematics curriculum, children develop important prereading and math skills such as left/right sequencing, alphabet, patterns, counting and more. Development is encouraged through song, stories, cooking, crafts and more.
Social Development -students are encouraged to follow directions, finish tasks on time and follow rules. Communication skills (both verbal and listening) are encouraged and independence is fostered by giving students opportunities to help themselves and complete tasks independently.
Physical Development—Fine motor skills are emphasized through lots of art projects and manipulatives.
Spiritual Development—The religion curriculum continues to help children understand the importance of God in their lives. Children are taught basic prayers and are even given the opportunity to help plan and participate in a school-wide Mass.
Convenient for Families
The OLV Preschool offers convenient hours for families and lots of time for children to have fun while learning! Hours are 8 AM– 1PM. Children should pack a lunch including a drink. Or, you have the option of pre-ordering hot lunch at an additional cost. Children should also pack a snack, including a drink each day.
