THE KNIGHT SCHOOL is Birmingham's premiere intensive chess program, specializing in imparting true chess mastery to the Cahaba Valley's sharpest minds in an environment that is addictively fun, laughter-driven and powerfully organized. State Champion Chess Coach David Brooks, Ph.D. travels every week to 16 Knight School locations to unleash an arsenal of world-class teaching, complete with remote control clickers, mandatory chess clocks, highly-competitive, colorfully-bracketed tournaments, chess movies, driving music, and candy prizes. The phenomenal growth of the Knight School in the past several years—a growth that began with OLV as his very first school--has been based on the roller coaster-like exhilaration the students report about class. Dr. Brooks’ unique and innovative teaching techniques are innumerable, and include students wearing colorful silicone wristbands which denote chess rank as they compete in "promotion games" against Coach as he plays dozens of intense chess games simultaneously.
