It’s time again to prepare for the Spelling Bee!  OLV has a long tradition of Spelling Bee champions, and we’re sure that this year’s Bee will again be fun and exciting.  The year the Diocese will not be hosting a Spelling Bee so OLV will participate in the Shelby County Spelling Bee.  Here’s how it works!  OLV students compete in classroom spelling bees in grades 3-8.  Winners from each class then advance to the school wide spelling bee to be held in January. (See the school calendar for the date and time.) The winner from the school will advance to the Shelby County Spelling Bee. The County spelling bee winner advances to the Alabama Spelling Bee  to compete for the state championship. The Alabama Spelling Bee champion will represent the state at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Unlike previous years in which students purchased spelling bee books, the spelling bee words are available online to registered schools.  OLV has assumed the cost for spelling bee registration so there is no cost to students who want to participate and we’ve made the spelling bee guide available on our web site.  Simply click on the guide at right which includes words, pronunciations and definitions.

Please encourage your children to participate in the Spelling Bee! It’s a wonderful event that celebrates academic achievements by our students.  If you have questions, please contact Ms. Winnie Martinez at m3rdgrade@olvsch.com.
