Beginning & Advanced
For more than 20 years, the OLV band has given students the opportunity to participate in concert band and learn instruments in the woodwind, brass and percussion families. Students in grades 4-8 may participate in band and no prior experience is necessary. There are two bands:
- Beginning Band practices Thursday mornings before school from 7:30-8:10
- Advanced Band practices on Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:10.
Students meet one additional time each week for smaller group instruction during a time designated for PE. The fee for band is $19/month ($190 per year). The band performs a Christmas and Spring Concert and is under the direction of Mr. Ron Peters.
For twenty years, Mr. Peters has been sharing his enthusiastic love of music with students. He is quick to point out the many benefits of participating in band. “Music helps students academically and there is a strong connection between math and music,” Mr. Peters notes. “Even more important though is music gives you joy for your whole life.”
For Mr. Peters, music has been a source of joy all of his life. He began playing his first instrument at age 7, and has been active in music since. He was principle clarinet with the Mobile Symphony and currently plays principle clarinet with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra as well as performs with several dance bands at THE Club. While in high school Mr. Peters began teaching music and has continued teaching for more than 50 years!
Students participating in the OLV band bring their own instrument and pay a $19/month ($190/year) band participation fee payable to OLV. You may register your child for band by contacting the school office and/or by calling Mr. Ron Peters at 680-0287.
